GUITAR TUTOR, Tom Carter.
I have been teaching guitar for almost twenty years. I teach a wide variety of styles, specialising in blues and rock. I have taught at several schools and run music therapy sessions for Scope. I teach people from ages six to sixty and enjoy helping others to experiment with songwriting and improvisation. I DJ and produce my own music as well as recording demos for others. I have performed live as a support act for a variety of musicians both as a guitarist/singer and as a DJ/producer. I am currently studying a course in music technology.
Beginners: Spend the morning with a small group of students learning the basics of guitar playing. Bring your instrument and learn to tune it and play a simple song. Learn how to read chord symbols and guitar Tablature. This short course includes an introduction to the basic chord shapes which will equip you with the foundations for your next steps with the guitar. Also learn some simple finger picking exercises. This is a three hour session with a break for refreshments. Acoustic or electric guitars welcome.
Intermediate: Play guitar but want to improve? Spend the morning learning some technical exercises, a little bit of basic music theory and some songs and riffs. A light lunch is provided to relax and rest before looking at some ideas which could help to improve your improvisational skills. Finish the course by trying out some of these ideas and having a jam with your fellow students. Acoustic or electric guitars welcome.
